Dorin Vasilescu, Photographer in Florence

Dorin is a portrait and editorial photographer, based in Florence, Italy . Since he was a child, he used to take portraits of his friends with an old camera (without the film inside), go back to his "darkroom" and give them afterwards a hand drawn picture on a piece of paper.

Years later, Dorin illustrated a book with his drawings, and photography became his day and night job.

Dorin commenced working professionally as a wedding photographer, and from 2014 started doing commercial and fashion photography. He also collaborates with the local bilingual (italian/english) newspaper Florence is You !

Dorin is part of an international community of artists living in Florence, and is happy to give recommendations for extra activities to travellers to his beautiful city.

He is also currently filming a video documentary about the creation of a life size statue, by sculptor Frank Rekrut, honoring Harriet Tubman, that will be shown at the new Harriet Tubman Public School in St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada shortly.

Where are some of your favourite places to shoot in Florence?

I love Piazzale Michelangelo or Forte di Belvedere, for the best panoramic views of town

The center of Florence (especially on the narrow streets) is a great place for photos - it gives an unique feel.

And Boboli Gardens - for a little piece of green :)

Romantic, creative, spontaneous.
